Princess Margaret, Queen's Younger Sister, Dies, 71

Princess Margaret Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Princess Margaret, the Queen's younger sister. She was 71.

Buckingham Palace says the Princess "died peacefully in her sleep at 6.30" this morning, British time. Members of her family were at her side. She suffered a stroke yesterday.

Princess Margaret was born on August 21, 1930 at Glamis, the Scottish home of her grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. She was christened Margaret Rose.

In recent years, Princess Margaret suffered ill-health, including two strokes.
