Democrats Collapse In South Australia, But Result Unclear

February 9, 2002 - 8.05pm AEST

There has been a collapse in the vote for the Australian Democrats in early counting in the South Australian election, but it is not yet clear what the overall result will be. There are swings to the ALP in some seats, such as Adelaide, but it is also in danger in some of its own seats, such as Norwood.

The ALP appears to be picking up support in its own electorates, but losing votes in Liberal seats. This is resulting in sitting members consolidating their margins, similar to what happened in the Federal election last year.
