October 17, 2001

Roy Morgan Polling The latest Morgan Poll of 27 marginal seats in mid-October gives a clear lead to the coalition.

The poll was conducted in the marginal coalition seats of: Adelaide Lindsay, Ballarat, Longman, Deakin, McEwen, Dunkley, Makin, Eden-Monaro, Moreton, Herbert, Paterson, Hindmarsh, Petrie, Hinkler, Richmond, La Trobe and Robertson. On a two-party-preferred basis, the coalition polled 53% to Labor's 47% in these seats.

The poll also included the marginal Labotr seats of: Bass, Macarthur, Canning, McMillan, Dickson, Parramatta, Dobell, Stirling and Kingston. On a two-party-preferred basis, the ALP polled 50.5% to the coalition's 49.5%.

Morgan has also released its nationwide poll of voting intention, conducted over the weekend, but prior to Sunday night's televised debate.

This poll gives the coalition 55% of the two-party-preferred vote, to 45% for the ALP. Translated into seats, these figures would give the government a considerably increased majority.

The poll shows the ALP's primary vote on 35%, down 4.5% from a couple of weeks ago. The coalition's primary vote is 47.5%, the Democrats have 7%, the Greens 4.5%, One Nation 2.5% and others 3.5%.
